Research has shown that the average woman who wears face creams and make up on a daily basis absorbs 5lb of chemicals through her skin every year! It becomes especially hard to monitor what goes into our skin when it seems so tricky to get given a list of ingredients that mean the slightest thing to us! Reading the label on a typical jar of skincare cream means little to the vast majority of people, substances such as sorbitol, cetyl alcohol, dimethicone, propylene glycol and phenoxyethanol etc, don’t entirely enlighten us on what we are exactly putting on our skin!

These unknown chemicals can potentially cause allergies, skin irritation, premature aging, nausea, depression, and have even been linked with cancer. Parabens are chemicals used in many cosmetic products and are easily absorbed through the skin, however many people are beginning to avoid using parabens as in resent studies parabens have been found in samples of breast tumors.

Whilst it is important to look good your average person will agree that vanity should not override good health. People should switch to products with a list of ingredients that they can actually understand! With a booming range of healthy, natural and organic products there is no excuse for being ignorant when it comes to skincare!

When using organic and natural products you can be assured of having smooth, glowing, fresh skin, in the healthiest way possible. The ingredients are all totally beneficial with no risk of nasty side effects in the future.

As they are generally taken from plants and fruits, the natural ingredients in cosmetics – much like in healthy food contain vitamins and nutrients which contain natural antioxidants, known to help prevent cancer and when using organic products you can be sure that none of the ingredients will damage you internally.

With certified organic products you can relax knowing that the ingredients were grown naturally as organic food is grown, they are not tested on animals and the packaging is generally environmentally friendly.

The above benefits are generally specific to products which have been certified to be totally organic. You can be sure that during the manufacture of the skincare product no artificial pesticides, fertilizers, antibiotics, additives or genetically modified materials were used at any point. You can also be assured that none of the above were used at any stage in the manufacture of the products. Certified organic products will always have been kept isolated from non certified products, so there is no chance of contamination, the products and the production process being open for verification anytime.

Organic products are specifically good for sensitive skin, troublesome teenage skin or baby’s skin. They will not potentially cause a reaction like chemical products and will not irritate already problematic areas. It is good to have an understanding of many different natural ingredients, as you can then determine what products will do the right job for you! For example beeswax is a common ingredient, it works by helping to seal the skin and to keep it soft, tee tree oil is a good antiseptic for spots, chamomiles is soothing much like calendula which is known to relieve pain, reduces swelling and promote healing.
