The best way to learn how to hypnotize is to start doing it.
Don t worry about whether your getting it right or being perfect the first time. No one does this, so don t impose this kind of impossible expectation on yourself.
Instead, approach hypnosis with a sense of fun and adventure.
Many people start out their hypnosis adventure by practicing on themselves. They find it easier and less embarrassing than trying to hypnotize a friend or (scarier still) a stranger in the street. Others find that attending a day or a weekend workshop is the best way for them. Or downloading a free course in hypnotism from the internet. Any of these ways are good. So is a mixture of them. Choose what you think will work best for you and if you get stuck, add in another method.
At its most basic, hypnosis is just a controlled day dream.
Most people find the easiest way to hypnotize themselves is to use a pre recorded MP3 track. You can buy these cheaply on the web or you can make your own.
Let s have a look at making your own recording.
The hypnotic track has three distinct parts:
1. Hypnosis induction
This is the part where you relax. Your breaths get longer and deeper. You allow yourself to close your eyes. If you were in a movie, you d probably be watching a swinging pendulum or watch. If you were on stage, the stage hypnotist would simply click their fingers and say sleep . You can find hypnosis induction scripts on lots of sites, including the hypnosis induction script video on the link below. The induction will usually last between 2 and 5 minutes. As you get used to doing this, you ll find that you can record a shorter induction and still go into a deep trance state.
2. Main hypnosis session
This is the meat of the session. Especially whilst you re learning, you d be best advised to use a script written by someone else. This is because whilst your conscious mind usually knows when you mean, your subconscious mind needs completely precise, unambiguous instructions. Otherwise it makes its best guess at what you meant and does that. If you do decide to write your own scripts, triple check them for any kind of ambiguity. There are very specialist scripts available on the internet for little money covering everything from relaxation through to fear of needles and giving up an addiction to chocolate plus much more. 3. Return to the real world
This is usually shorter than the induction and typically involves counting you out of the trance. Which way you count upwards from 1 to 10 or downwards from 10 to 1 and whether you use 5 or 10 as the number doesn t matter too much. Give yourself the command to come out of trance and when you re getting close to the final number, tell yourself to soon open your eyes and awake feeling refreshed and alert.
