There are many processes of making bronze sculptures that include casting, Lost wax, and hammering. Firstly, do not harm the figurine by placing it in extreme humidity or heat. Waxing is another good option of preserving the shine and finish of the bronze models. A thin layer of wax should be applied with a soft brush to evenly coat the whole area and then rubbed with a soft cloth or bristle brush. You can wax a sculpture as often as you like! This also gives the bronze sculpture a natural shine and unusual colors in the patina ranging from reddish to bluish shades.

However once you have acquired an original bronze sculpture either inherit a masterpiece or have bought one, how do you look after it?

Firstly, do not harm the figurine by placing it in extreme humidity or heat. Display the statue in an open, ventilated area away from humidity and extreme heat. Dusting it with a soft cloth will enhance the shine and luster. Shoe brush and even a toothbrush can be used for light cleaning while for removing the grime and settled dust use mild detergent or soap with distilled water. Wash it and let it air dry gently, rub with a soft material to remove the water spots.

Waxing is another good option of preserving the shine and finish of the bronze models. A thin layer of wax should be applied with a soft brush to evenly coat the whole area and then rubbed with a soft cloth or bristle brush. In case, you live in an area where humidity is high, then waxing should be repeated often. Leave the wax for 12 to 14 hours to dry and get ingrained into the metal. After that polish and apply another wax coating if required, for additional gloss. You can wax a sculpture as often as you like!

Some people like the gloss of a thin layer of wax and let it wane out while the patina changes color as it ages. This also gives the bronze sculpture a natural shine and unusual colors in the patina ranging from reddish to bluish shades. While cleaning if you notice that the patina is coming of or the statue is showing discoloration, do not alter it as it may damage the statue and reduce the value of the sculpture. Abrasive brushes, polishes and cleaning chemicals should not be used as it may react with the metal causing more harm than good.

As bronze is a durable, long lasting that can last for centuries, you should keep it clean and polished for you to enjoy its beauty and pass it down the generations as an heirloom. Buying original and exclusive pieces can one day attain the status of becoming a collector s item and value increases.
