Known for exquisite handicrafts and enamel work, Russian artists are experts at carving silver laid with enamel. The art of metal crafting with inlay of ivory, wood and precious stones was very popular in the ancient civilizations. Exquisite inlay work in enamel has been found in China, Greece and Roman archeological excavations. As each country and artist has his or her own style, the Russian artists have an amazing style when working with silver and enamel. Mostly Champleve and Cloisonne styles are used to craft enamel into metals. Jewelry pieces and decorative art is a special skill of Russian artist.

They have been famous for crafting beautiful Faberge eggs, objects of utility like samovars, candy holders, cups, plates, boxes and chests while the decorative items are equally well crafted.

For the past 2 centuries, Russian artists have made a name for themselves in the exotic art of crafting Sterling silver and decorating it with enamel work giving it a bright colorful look. Peter Faberge is perhaps, one of the most famous names associated with this style of decorating metals. He was given the task of creating a beautiful Easter egg every year which was crafted out of gold with precious stones, holding a treasure inside. Some of the artists been credited with creating magnificent masterpieces in Christian art using the technique of inlay.

The art of metal crafting with inlay of ivory, wood and precious stones was very popular in the ancient civilizations. Exquisite inlay work in enamel has been found in China, Greece and Roman archeological excavations. It has been noted that there are many types of sculpting with inlay work. Usually, vitreous enamel is used in bright colors and translucent looks on hardening so, very commonly used in inlay. Mostly Champleve and Cloisonne styles are used to craft enamel into metals. The most popular is the Champleve style in which grooves are created in the metal and molten enamel is fired that leaves the metal exposed. In the other popular style of Cloisonne, divisions are created by placing thin wires on the top surface of the object and enamel is applied uniformly. After each application dries and is fired, a beautiful colored metal ware is made. Numerous objects and decorative pieces are created each year by the skilled artist and cherished by millions worldwide. Jewelry pieces and decorative art is a special skill of Russian artist. Silver ware is also crafted in Filigree which is a very delicate art of handcrafting with thin wires, meshed to together to make exquisite objects. Designs ranging from floral meshed patterns to very fine verses and traditional curves can be seen o Judaica and other decorative pieces including jewelry.
