If you just bought a new mattress, you are probably wondering how you can keep it as nice as possible. Maybe you don t want to give up your midnight snack in bed or having the pets or baby sleep with you, but you still want to keep your bed looking and feeling fresh and new. If you are wondering how to keep your thousand dollar investment lasting even longer than it already should, here are some tips that can help you to keep your bed looking good and also feeling as comfortable as it should be.

The first tip is that when you get a new mattress you should probably also get a new foundation for your mattress. That means you need a new box spring that is going to match and complement your new bed. You might have tried out a mattress in the store and then brought it home with you and plopped it on your old box spring and found out that it s not very comfortable. That is because your box spring provides you with the majority of the support for the bed. If you are going to spend a lot of money on a bed, you might as well do it right.

If you are worried about the top of your mattress getting dog hair or spilt coffee on it, you may want to invest in a mattress pad. If you are worried about moisture, make sure that you get a pad that is waterproof. Otherwise, you are going to look for a mattress pad that is going to repel dust and allergens. After a while, this dust is going to build up and can get you sneezing at your mattress.

When you purchase your mattress, make sure that you ask the salesman what type of maintenance you are going to have to perform on the bed. You may have to flip or rotate the bed, so that it the bed is worn evenly. Usually, you are going to have to do this more in the beginning, and then once every two months. If you have a pillow top or foam cover on your mattress you might not have to flip it but just to rotate it, so make sure you find out what you need to do. Also, you are going to want to make sure you to do this maintenance, because if you don t your warranty may end up being voided.

You have your new box spring, a mattress pad that is going to protect your mattress and you are turning a mattress whenever you need to, now you are going to have to think of other ways to protect your investment. If you have kids, they are going to want to jump on the new bed, but this really isn t a good idea. If you want to protect your bed and your investment, you should go to the toy store and get a trampoline for them. Not only is it going to keep your mattress looking good, but you will also give them some exercise.

Investing in a mattress is a big deal, and doing it right the first time is really going to save you some money. If you treat your mattress right, it should last you at least 10 years, and probably even longer. Keeping your mattress clean and keeping it covered with sheets is a no brainer, but here are some tips that you might not have thought about before.
